Ref: Institution Activities Report

Dear Dr. Lilja;

With compliments, on behave of the staffs and members of the Board of Directors of this Institution,I am pleased to submit the activities report to your dynamic office for examining and assistance covering the period starting July 2019- June 2020.

During the above mentioned periods, the institution received some donations in the tone of $ 34,750.00 USD from you Dr. Lilja, Board Chair/Sponsor in cash and $ 2,930.00 USD throughother donations to include: fun-raising programs, fees from treatmentsand registration fees from the Nursing/Midwifery Program as well as a Microscope and three (3) beds with mattresses.

Nursing School DEMO Lab stimulators and other medical equipment/supplies were purchased in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

However, cash received were used to purchase training simulators, clinic materials/ office equipment, Renovation/Extension of Concern Aid International SchoolBuilding & payment of students West African Examination Council (WAEC)fees,construction of the clinic;Nursing/Midwifery school buildings including thepurchase of one lot of land for the Medical School, payment of staff salaries, Taxes andother office supplies/equipment. The institution was also able to recruit nine (9) students 6 midwives and 3 Professional Nursing students as well as the recruitment of 9 clinical;3 administrative, 4 Instructional, 1 janitorial & 1 security.

Nevertheless, the institutionreceived anAccreditation Certificate from the Liberia Medical & Dental Boardas well asImmunization and Family Planning training from the Ministry of Health for three (3) staff.

Additionally, the Liberia Nursing and Midwifery Councilwas written and they responded to the institution communication and a delegation of 3 Members of the Board came and conducted a one day Pre- Assessment tour of the College;after several weeks of the assessment a letter of Attestation was provided to the institution indicating the challenges and criteria’s that which we have not metin the pre-Assessment phase.

Unfortunately, the letter of Attestationhas an ultimatumofone semester to enable the institution start her activities as she seek means to meet the prescribed requirements.

Furthermore, we have just concluded the first semester of theNursing & Midwifery program.

Additionally, in appreciation for Dr. Lilja financial donations made to the school, The Parent Teacher’s Association (PTA) of Concern Aid International School presented a certificate of Appreciation to Dr. Patrick Liljafor the donations made to the school and students in June-July 2019, which covers the renovation work at the school including: fencing, chairs/blackboard and payment of 33 students West African Examination Fees both in grade 6th& 9th.

On March 18, 2020 the institution received another new microscope from Joni Byker the Country Director of Samaritan’s Purse.

In the meantime, on March 19, 2020 the institution invited stakeholders and community leaders to a one day workshop on the prevention of COVID-19. The theme: “Fight against Coronavirus, Keep Safe & Stay Healthy.”All went well with the commissioner office and community leaders present in attendance were 64 persons both male and female.

However, sincethe COVID-19 outbreak in Liberia which started mid-March up to present we had been working in vulnerable communities creating awareness, distributing locally made masks, Hygiene Materials (buckets, hand soap & Sanitizers), sensitizing vulnerable communities on the prevention of COVID-19 infection.Throughmedia, house-to house visitations, billboard and a collaborative partnership in a consortium Network with other local NGOs and the Ministry of Health.

Achievement

 85% of fundamental skill lab stimulators were purchased;

 The Medical College has secure its own land space;

 The upcoming semester the college will begin its Laboratory program; we were able to get an instructor from Army to teach laboratory science next semester;

 The institution now has a computer lab set up at least 80%;

 Certificate of accreditation from the Medical & Dental Board

 We were able to secure 3 instructors from the Tubman National Institute of Medical Arts (TNIMA) which is the mother & biggest Nursing School in Liberia through recommendation from the Ministry of Health;

 Our Laboratory is 90% functional to the public;

 We were also able to secure some drugs and Medical supplies for the clinic and student Demo Skills Lab;

 Constructed a placenta Pit;

 The clinic has 12 beds, a triage, screening room, pharmacy and a ER;

 During the heat of the COVID-19 in Liberia, we were also call upon by the Fire Service to conduct workshops at the various sub-stations for the Fire Fighters and also donated 132 pieces of locally made masks to all fire fighters who were working during the heat of the COVID-19 crisis.

Challenges/Constraints

1. Lack of adequate class rooms and office spaces for staff and students;

2. Equip Library(inadequate Medical Books)

3. Vehicles to run the program

4. Ambulance

5. Student Center/Hall

6. Inadequate Computers and laboratory equipment

7. Lack of funds to complete building project.

Recommendations

• Availability of funds will help in the completion of the college building that is currently under construction.

• Appeal for recondition vehicle/Ambulance

• Medical books and other devices etc.

In view of the above challenges/ constraints, on behave of the institution, I am appealingto you to kindly helpwith additional donations including aid for recondition vehicle/ambulance which will enable the institution meet the requirements proposed by the Liberian Board of Nursing & Midwifery Council which will enable us received our full accreditation and increase enrolment of students at the institution.

Please see below a chart with an estimated amount needed for the completion of the college project and accreditation fees, etc. to enable the institution get its full accreditation in order to properly accommodate students and staff.

We will continue to appreciate your numerous donations to the institution which is beyond our expectation.

Please render this help to finally complete this project to meet the standard for the provision of quality clinical care and nursing education in Liberia.
